Falmouth Town have been given a home draw in the Cornwall Senior Cup 2nd round draw. We will be home to Newquay on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 – K.O. 7:30pm. This will be the first time we have played Newquay since the semi-final of last years Cornwall Senior Cup competition, when we ran out 4-2 winners.
Falmouth Town’s very own Tommy Matthews is planning to launch his new book at our Southern League home fixture to Bashley on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at Bickland Park. ‘A Game of Two Halves – The Tommy Matthews Story’ charts Tommy’s life in football, as a player, coach and manager. The book, priced at £5, is being sold in aid of Cancer Research UK and Tommy will be signing copies on the day. More on the details of this event nearer the time. Falmouth Town will travel to north Dorset when we take on Shaftesbury in the Southern League on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 – K.O. 3:00pm. Shaftesbury were promoted to the Southern League after fininshing 3rd in the the Wessex League and then winning the play-offs at the end of the 2023/24 season. Likewise, we were promoted to the Southern League as play-off winners, having finished runners up in the Western League last season.
This will be the first meeting of the two clubs since the extra preliminary round of the 2008/09 FA Vase competition. The game was drawn 2-2 at Shaftesbury, with Town winning the the replay 4-2 at Bickland Park. Shaftesbury’s ground is called The Cockrams and features a 3G pitch. Shaftesbury are currently in 16th place in the league table with six points from eight games, while we are in 10th position with ten points from six games. As an aside, if you’re into a bit of sightseeing while you’re in Shaftesbury, you can visit Gold Hill. For those who are not familiar with Gold Hill, this was the location used in the 1970s Hovis bread advert.
Falmouth Town maintained their excellent home record this season in front of another large attendance, with an eventful and hard-fought win against high-flying Exmouth Town, who started the day in 2nd place in the league. The first-half ended goal-less which reflected the even nature of the game with neither side creating any clear-cut chances.
It was the hosts that struck first five minutes into the second half. Falmouth Striker Oscar Massey picked up the ball just inside the Exmouth half and outpaced the visiting defence to create a one-on-one with Phllips in the Exmouth goal, ending in a side-foot finish into the corner to make it 1-0. Ten minutes later, the game took another turn as Falmouth defender Harrisson Jewell was given a straight red card following a challenge and resulting skirmish involving an Exmouth forward. Falmouth could then only hold out for a further ten minutes as Callum Shipton equalised for the visitors.
Exmouth were in the ascendancy but it was Massey again who put Falmouth ahead on thirty-one minutes. Picking the ball up from deep, he out-sprinted the Exmouth defence and drove into the box, only to be brought down for a clear penalty. Massey picked himself up to despatch the penalty into the roof of the net to make it 2-1. Exmouth thought they had levelled it on ninety minutes, only for the assistant referee to intervene after a long consultation with the ref and Falmouth held on through eight minutes of injury time to claim the win to the rapturous applause of the home crowd.

A Personal Statement from the Chairman – Dean Robinson.
It is with a heavy heart that today I have resigned as Chairman of Falmouth Town. I was honoured to be asked to lead the club forward having reached the Southern League for the first time. Having listened a great deal to supporters and their suggestions and ideas, I always knew that this position would be a transitional role for this season. So due to irrevocable differences with the club my position has become untenable. I know that this club will remain at the centre of our community and I will continue to fully support the club in everything it does moving forward.
This club has something very special and in my opinion is the best non league club in the country, we have a dedicated band of volunteers that do much behind the scenes to ensure the running and your matchday safety, thank you for all you have done and will do.
I would like to thank everyone that has supported me on this journey, and look forward to meeting you at up coming matches.

Falmouth Town will be in league action when we take on Exmouth Town at Bickland Park on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 – K.O. 3:00pm. This will be our first encounter with Exmouth Town in the Southern League. We have of course played Exmouth many times in both the South West Peninsula League and the Western League. Exmouth Town won promotion to the Southern League at the end of the 2021/22 season as Western League runners up. Likewise, we gained promotion as Western League play-off winners at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Exmouth are currently second in the table with sixteen points from seven games, while we are in eleventh place with seven points from five games. We go into this game on the back of our 3-0 victory over Saltash United in the Cornwall Senior Cup.

Falmouth Town progressed to the next round of the Cornwall Senior Cup with a convincing 3-0 win over Saltash United at the Kimberley Stadium last night. Town’s first goal came after twenty-six minutes from Jack Webber. The first half finished 1-0 to Falmouth Town.
The second half started lively with the home side pressing for the equaliser. With Cam Hutchison making way for Luke Barner after sixty-five minutes, it was Barner who put Town 2-0 up just three minutes later. Town striker Rubin Wilson made 3-0 with a well deserved goal some seven minutes later, effectively sealing the game. Tonight also saw new signing Fred Walter make his debut appearance for Town. Manager Andy Westgarth made two more substitutions as Falmouth Town ran down the clock. With Kian Thomas replacing Rubin Wilson and finally Ned Symons came on in place of Tom Annear. The game finished 3-0 to Town. We now await the draw to see who we will meet in the second round.
Falmouth Town are pleased to confirm the signing of defender Fred Walter.
Walter joins from St Blazey having previously played for Helston Athletic and Wendron United. With James Ward moving onto Mousehole and Tom Fisher out with a broken ankle, Walter’s arrival will help bring a solid presence to strengthen Town’s back line.

“I have been a long time admire of Fred over the years and tried to sign him when he left Helston but he felt he needed regular game time and choose to move to St Blazey instead.
Another player who fits the profile perfectly, young, local, hungry to play and test himself at this level. Fred can play anywhere across the back line so I’m delighted to get him in.”
Falmouth Town will begin our defence of the Cornwall Senior Cup when we travel to Saltash United for our opening game in the 2024/25 competition on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024. This is the first year clubs from Step 4 have been allowed to enter. This is a classic cup clash between the Southern League and the Western League, and between two teams with great pedigree in this competition. We are fourteen times winners, while Saltash United have won the competition ten times. With this in mind, we expect and exciting game under the lights at the Kimberley Stadium.
