Falmouth Town will take to the road again when we visit Evesham United in our next Southern League match on Saturday, November 30th – K.O. 3:00pm.

Evesham United are an established Southern League club having joined the then Midlands Division in 1993. They have enjoyed two periods at Step 3 in the Southern League Prenier Division, firstly in the 2005/06 season and secondly, four seasons from 2008/09 to 2012/13. Since returning to Step 4 football, they have reached the play-offs on no less than four occasions, narrowly missing out on promotion.

We go into this game on the back of our recent victory over Larkhall Athletic on Wednesday, November 20th. Previous results have seen us with draws against Cribbs and Bideford, and narrow defeats against Didcot Town, Cinderford Town and league leaders Yate Town. We will now be looking forward to returning to winning ways a climb up the league table.

Directions:

  • From South, exit M5 at junction 9, signposted Tewkesbury and Evesham. Take the third exit, A46 Ashchurch and Evesham. Continue on the A46 to Evesham and the ground is on the left at the first roundabout just outside the town centre.
  • From North, exit M5 at junction 7 and follow the B4084 through Pershore to Evesham. Turn right at traffic lights at Rover bridge, signposted M5 South, Cheltenham and Oxford, onto Cheltenham Road. Continue over two sets of traffic lights, the ground is on the right at the first roundabout.
  • From Oxford A44, at first roundabout on outskirts of Evesham turn left onto the A46 signposted M5 South and Cheltenham. Continue over next island with Strawberry Field Public House and McDonalds on the right hand side. At next island go straight over. There are signposts for Evesham United Football Club leading up to the island.

Falmouth Town will take to the road when we take on Larkhall Athletic on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 – K.O. 7:45pm. Having been members of the Western League since 1976, when the Bath based club joined the newly formed Division 1, Larkhall Athletic were promoted to the Southern League in 2014 as Western League Premier Division champions. They are currently thirteenth in the table with 20 points from fourteen games. Following our draw at Cribbs last Saturday, we will be looking to add a win and three points to our tally. We go into this game in eighteenth place with 15 points from fifteen games.

Directions:

  • Take the A4 towards M4/Chippenham from Bath City Centre. Turning to Larkhall is after Kwikfit on the left hand side. You are now on St Saviour’s Road. Continue straight ahead past the Church. Turn left into Larkhall Square just before Larkhall Inn. Take the Salisbury Road on the left and turn right at T-junction, then follow the road round to the right and up a hill. You are now on Charlcombe Lane. Continue up the hill until the houses end. A lane signposted ‘Woolley’ is on the right hand side. Turn around here and come back down the hill on the top lane. The ground is approximately 50 yards from Woolley turning.

Falmouth Town will take to road when we visit Cribbs on Saturday, November 16th, 2024 – K.O. 3:00pm. Cribbs started out as A X A Sun Life in the Gloucestershire County League in 2000. They soon changed their name to A X A, before becoming Cribbs Friends Life, and then Cribbs in 2013. During that time they have played in the Western League and the Hellenic League, before winning promotion to the Southern League at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Cribbs are currently 20th in the league table with 13 points from 13 games, while we are 17th with 14 points from 14 games. This will be a must win game for both clubs.

  • From the M5, J17, follow the signs to Bristol West & Clifton. On the A4018 dual carriageway, cross one roundabout and when you come to the 2nd roundabout take the 2nd exit (down the old bus lane). At the roundabout after Clifton Rugby Club, take the 3rd exit to The Lawns.

Falmouth Town will be looking to return to winning ways when we make the long trip to Didcot Town on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 – K.O. 7:45pm. Both teams go into this game on the back home defeats, Didcot having been beaten by Shaftesbury 5-3 and we losing to Cinderford Town 1-0. This will be officially the longest away trip in a league fixture.

Didcot Town have been a Southern League club since 2007 and have played three seasons at Step 3 during that time. They were relegated to Southern League Div1 South at the end of last season. We can expect a challenging match, but both sides will want those three points.

  • From A34 take A4130 towards Didcot. At the first roundabout take the first exit, then at the next roundabout take the third exit, then straight across the next two roundabouts. At the fifth roundabout turn right into Avon Way. Follow Avon Way for 1/2 mile, straight across a mini roundabout and the ground is on the left hand side.
  • Nearest Railway Station – Didcot Parkway, which is a 10 minute walk.

Falmouth Town will host Cinderford Town on Saturday, November 9th in our next Southern League fixture. Like us, Cinderford Town gained promotion to the Southern League last season, their route was through the Hellenic League play-offs after one season at Step 5.

We go into this game on the back of our recent win over Newquay in the Cornwall Senior Cup on Wednesday, November 6th, so we will be looking for another win on Saturday when we return to league action.

CORNWALL SENIOR CUP – FALMOUTH TOWN v NEWQUAY

Falmouth Town will be looking to get back to winning ways when we host Newquay in the second round of the Cornwall Senior Cup at Bickland Park on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 – K.O. 7:45pm.

We progressed to this round after beating Saltash United 3-0 at the Kimberley Stadium back on October 1st. In this competition, we last played Newquay in the semi-final of the 2023/24 Cornwall Senior Cup at Blaise Park, when we ran out 4-2 winners. With this in mind, we can expect an exciting game under the lights at Bickland Park, so make sure you don’t miss out.

Falmouth Town will be looking to get back to winning ways when we take on high flying Yate Town at Bickland Park on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 – K.O. 3:00pm. This will be the first league meeting between the two clubs, although we did play Yate Town in the second round of the 1990/91 F.A. Vase, when Yate ran out 2-1 winners at their Lodge Road ground.

Yate Town have had two spells in the Southern League, the first from 1989 to 2000 and the second from 2003 to date, the latter includes a period at Step 3 in the Southern League Premier Division. Yate are currently Southern League Division 1(S) leaders with 29 points from 12 games, while we find ourselves in 15th position with 14 points from 11 games. This will be an exciting and challenging contest, but one not to be missed.

Falmouth Town will be looking to bounce back from our defeat at Bishops Cleeve when we travel to Helston Athletic on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024 – K.O. 7:45pm. While we have played Helston many times in the past, in both league and cup competitions, this will be our first meeting in the Southern League.

Our last encounters with Helston were in the 2023/24 Western League season, when we won the home game 1-0 on Boxing Day in front of a fantastic 1,845 crowd. The away fixture was won by Helston by the same scoreline, which saw them go on to win the league title. We finished as runners up and both sides were promoted to the Southern League.

Falmouth Town will be on the road again when we travel to Bishops Cleeve on Saturday, October 26th, 2024 – K.O. 3:00pm. Our last encounter with Bishops Cleeve was at Bickland Park in the 2020/21 FA Vase, when we ran out 2-1 winners. This will be our first meeting in the Southern League.

Founded in 1905, Bishops Cleeve have had two spells in the Southern League, the first from 2006 to 2018 and the second from 2022 to date. They played all their Step 5 football in the Hellenic League. Before that, they played in the Cheltenham League & the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League. A more recent claim to fame for the Bishops came in September 2024, when they beat Torquay United 3-0 at home in the 2024/25 FA Cup. Both teams are currently mid table, having played nine games, with Bishops Cleeve in 12th position with 13 points and Town in 11th position on 14 points.

Falmouth Town are looking forward to renewing old aquaintances with Bideford AFC in our next Southern League encounter at Bickland Park on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 – K.O. 7:45pm. The two clubs have played each other many times over the years. In the 1970s & 1980s both clubs were in the Western League. In the 1977/78 season, Bideford were runners up to Falmouth Town, only goal difference separated the two sides. Bideford have had two spells in the Southern League, three seasons from 1972 to 1975 and from 2010 to the present day, including four seasons in the then Southern League Premier Division from 2012 to 2016. In one epic FA Cup encounter in 1973, the two clubs played each other no less than five times, before the round was finally settled in the replay at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park stadium where Bideford won the tie 2-1.

This season has seen mixed results for both clubs. We are currently in 10th place with 13 points from eight games, while Bideford are in 15th place with 11 points from ten games. Both sides will be wanting to win this match.
