Preview: Falmouth Town v Sherborne Town

Falmouth Town will be hoping to exact revenge on Sherborne Town when they host the Zebras in the Western League on Saturday, only a week after losing to the Dorset outfit.

Andrew Westgarth’s side are enjoying another fine run of form as their first Western League campaign since 1982/83 begins to wind down, but suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Dorset side in the reverse fixture on Saturday, with this weekend presenting an opportunity to settle that score.

Town continue to find themselves in eighth position in the league, and victory on Saturday would guarantee a top-ten finish with three games still to play.

Opposition view

Sherborne are enjoying their first season back in the Western League Premier Division since the Dorset outfit won the Division One title last season, ending a run of five consecutive years out of the Western League’s top flight.

The newly-promoted side have endured a challenging second half of the season and had won just once since January 2 until their victory over Town at the weekend, with the Zebras following that up with a 3-1 victory at Shepton Mallet on Tuesday. The Dorset side now sit fourth from bottom with 30 points from their 34 matches.

Sherborne have scored 49 goals in all competitions this season, with Alex Murphy leading the way with 11 strikes in 34 games, while Henry Lawrence-Napier is next on the list with six goals this term.

Westy’s words

“You never like playing a side back-to-back but it is what it is and if anything we owe them one really because we were so flat and far off it [on Saturday]. It’s great to be back at home at Bickland Park and hopefully we can finish the season as strong as possible and cement that eighth place really because we want to finish as high as we can.

“It’ll be a big chance to right the wrongs from Saturday.”
