Falmouth Town are pleased to confirm the signing of forward Jayden Gilbert.
Gilbert, who has featured in four of our five pre-season friendlies this summer, will be familiar to Town fans after his goal helped Torquay United under-18s dump Dave Turner’s Town side out of the FA Youth Cup at Bickland Park last September.
The 18-year-old also counts St Piran League East side Polperro among his former clubs, having scored ten goals in 14 games for the east Cornwall outfit during the 2021/22 campaign.
Gilbert becomes our sixth signing of the summer, joining goalkeeper Morgan Coxhead, left-sided player Bradley Leivers, midfielder Jared Sims, and wingers Alex Wharton and Jacob Grange at Bickland Park.
“I think the reason I chose Falmouth is because of how special the club feels: the fans, the tradition of the club,” Gilbert told falmouthtownafc.co.uk.
“I think the style of play Westy is implementing on the team really suits me as a player and I think it’s the perfect club for the next step in my career.
“I hope to help the team out as much as I can this year and I believe we can do well in both the league and the cup competitions.”
“I’m really pleased to get Jayden in,” first-team manager Andrew Westgarth said. “He came on a recommendation from Torquay and played against us in the FA Youth Cup at Bickland Park and in his first two games [for us this summer] he came off the bench and played against Truro and Plymouth Parkway, which are difficult games at the best of times.
“Against Bodmin and Penzance he’s had two starts and looked really sharp. He looks like a proper centre-forward, he’s a great age and hopefully he can be a great addition for us.”
