Under-18s win on FA Youth Cup debut

Falmouth Town’s brand-new under-18s team came from behind to win 6-3 against Ilfracombe Town in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night – the team’s first-ever competitive match.

Connor McCarthy and Jack Commons both scored twice with Ethan Jorey and Ben Martin also notching as Town, who are managed by Dave Turner, came from 2-0 down to triumph 6-3 in their preliminary round tie at The Sports Ground at Bideford AFC, who were staging the tie on behalf of Ilfracombe.

Town’s young stars, who will compete in the Kernow Youth Football League this season, will be on the road again for their first qualifying round tie, with Falmouth to visit Elburton Villa in the week beginning Monday, September 12.

The winner will be decided on the night, with the match to be settled by penalties if it ends level after 90 minutes.

Falmouth are already the last Cornish team standing after Helston Athletic, Mousehole and Truro City were all beaten in their respective preliminary round ties last week.

Town will make their Kernow Youth Football League bow at Bickland Park on Monday, September 19 when St Blazey under-18s make the journey (kick-off 7.45pm).
